Recipient was happy but she wouldn't say what the state of the book was in which tells me she didn't want to hurt my feelings. This is a great old timey book full of great grandmother and grandmothers wisdom/knowledge/prized recipes that would have passed down to their daughters and grandchildren in a recipe book form that covers a little bit of all the cooking and some canning aspects needed.Book delivered quickly. The condition of the book was far better than I anticipated. Pleasently surprized. For pies, cakes, cookies and many home cooked meals, the Farm Journal Cookbooks are a fabulous source. All recipes were compiled from cooks who sent their recipes in to the Farm Journal Magazine. If you love home cooking, you will love this and other Farm Journal cook books.I collect old cookbooks. On day Vintage Recipes (a Facebook page I am fond of) posted a recipe that tickled me. It was from this book. So I bought a copy. There are four recipes on each page in a small font. Very few full page pictures in color. Little extra white space. The first page I turned to had a recipe for barbecued ribs. First thing it said, "break the ribs into serving sizes." I asked my friends at Girls Night Out (who are also my age 60+) how a new cook would know what that meant. They all agreed that back in that day, young women were more active in the kitchen and probably understood more about the preparation of food than today's girls. This was a good addition to my collection.I received this cookbook over 50 years ago at my wedding shower. I loved it and found GREAT recipes in it. It recently disappeared during a move. Fortunately, Amazon had a used book and when I received it in the mail, it was like “old home week.”The book was in very good condition, I ordered it to replace the book I already had and love, it’s in pieces. It wasn’t the exact same book as what I have, but it’s not their fault, that being said I like this cookbook it has way more recipes so I’m enjoying it.This search started a long time ago, when I got a recipe from an Aunt of mine. It was called 14 karat cake, and was the best carrot cake I ever ate. I misplaced the recipe, and knew that my cousin had the book the recipe was in. I wanted to have the exact recipe in my hand. There were so many Farm Journal Cookbooks, and I did not wantto bid on the wrong one! I finally got her to scan and attach a picture of the cover, and then I knew what to do. I found it on Amazon. It was the first place I looked. I found one in great condition and purchased it right away. It has great recipes in it. A lot of basic, and the way we cooked back in the fifties and sixties.really well booksI like that this contains so MANY different recipes, with instructions about the basics in many cases: breadmaking, cooking roasts, stews, cakes, etc. I had this exact cookbook before (it deteriorated irreparably from overuse), and was very happy to see that I could reorder it. It does not disappoint!Service was as scheduled.A great cookbook covering appetizers to desserts and thorough in between.Love it for the link to a different time period in cooking.Thank you
