If you're a scholarly publishing geek or you're an academic dealing with the maze and madness that is scholarly journal publishing this is a fascinating read. I've just started it and can hardly stand to put it down. There's a list of charts and graphs in the front which is very helpful. The index is disappointingly short for a book packed with this much information or, maybe just the terms I was looking for weren't there. I started with a hop/skip through all the chapters and finally decided to read it sequentially ([age 1-NNN)--until chapter one sent me to chapter fourteen which was a gold mine. This is a well written, scholarly and yet still accessible read while still being information dense. While I wouldn't recommend this as an introduction to the field (it isn't a 101 level book) for someone looking for in-depth information this would be it. Frankly, I was concerned about the price point given a recent disappointment with 'scholarly metrics under the microscope that carried a very hefty price for reprinted, often old, information, this updated edition is worth the price tag.
