Description

Memento mori--Latin for "remember you will die"--refers to the practice of meditation on one's inevitable death. Encouraged by Scripture and the saints, this ancient tradition can help you to manage the chaos of this world, grow closer to God, and focus on heaven. When Sr. Theresa Aletheia Noble, FSP, began keeping a ceramic skull on her desk and tweeting about memento mori, she had no idea she'd be starting a movement. Her daily tweets inspired countless others to remember death daily. Many have found that this ancient practice provides an important perspective on their lives in view of Jesus' call to repentance, conversion, and the hope of resurrection. Now Sr. Theresa Aletheia has written several resources to help people to incorporate memento mori into their daily lives, (a Lenten devotional, this journal, and a prayer book). This writing journal contains an introduction to memento mori, quotes, and an appendix of prayers to help readers incorporate this powerful practice into their lives. In this journal, you will find inspiration and space to value each unrepeatable moment of life. Journal alongside the wisdom of the saints, ancient writers, great Catholic minds, and contemporary people of faith. As you record your deepest thoughts, the practice of memento mori will help you to stay present in the day God has granted you and prepare for his call to the next world.Features & Benefits* Written and compiled by a trusted religious sister* Challenges readers to remember death in the hope of the resurrection* Introduction to the practice of memento mori* Includes over 200 quotes* Features an appendix of prayers**The journal can be used as a companion to Remember Your Death: Memento Mori Lenten Devotional, which contains journaling prompts. In the Fall of 2002, I studied abroad at the historic Kartause in Gaming, Austria- a.k.a. Franciscan University of Steubenville's "Austria Program." I was struck by the historic roots of the Kartause, which refers to the medieval Carthusian monks who lived by the Memento Mori motto or "Remember Your Death." As a young 22 year old who was enjoying traveling around Europe and a moderate consumption of fine beers, the rich spirituality helped me to focus in silent prayer when I took part in Eucharistic Adoration over there...Fast forward 15 years later in 2017 when I discovered Sr. Theresa on the Sirius XM Catholic Channel's Jennifer Fulwiler Show. The interview reconnected me with Memento Mori that I first discovered in Gaming, Austria. I realized I needed this theme of my mortality to continue growing closer to Jesus...Growing closer to Jesus is what will unfold if you give Sr. Theresa's Memento Mori journal a shot. Part of following the Gospel of Jesus is the reality that Jesus wants our earthly lives to lead to eternity with him. For myself, I would often get distracted when I tried to keep a spiritual journal with no guide. This journal provides that needed guide as I embark for the remainder of my earthly pilgrimage towards a greater friendship with the supreme lover and friend, Jesus, who isalways there for us all us.
