If you use a devotional book in your spiritual life, there is absolutely none better than this book. I recommend the original text as opposed to any reinterpretation intended to simply it. It is not a book that is over your head for reading the text, but the daily messages are often above our casual thinking mode, making you reread a given sentence one or more times to make sure you understand what you think Chambers just said as he pierced your thinking. One sentence can sometimes be a source of thoughtful reflection for minutes, hours or a day. Oswald Chambers was an unbelievably keen observer of the process of sanctification and a communicator par excellence. I have personally used this book for 40 years, and every year through it speaks to my soul with new insights and challenges pertaining to my Christian life.
